Here's a video of the hardest way on earth to pour funnel cakes. Watch this video. I really feel sorry for the people working in this concession stand. The lady cooking the funnel cakes is worn out. Can you imagine cooking funnel cakes this way for about ten hours??? Watch "how" she chunks a piece of the funnel cake up on the counter top to get it out of the way...just the way she tosses it up there shows she is tired and frustrated. So, what's wrong about this method? 1. Look at the batter pot she is scooping from: it's not covered...any thing can fall into it or fly into it. With the crowd there at the window - it stays open 99% of the time. Bugs will fly in! And, they do. They always head straight for the batter. Don't be surprised if you eat one. They probably don't charge more for the extra protein. 2. She's not wearing gloves. Her knuckles go down into the batter, to an extent, every time she scoops batter into the funnel. That's "why" you see her wiping her hands after she has poured the cake. I guess the cooking oil being at 375 degrees F. kills most of the germs. 3. Batter setting out like this degrades and starts rising and crusting up. In other words, it starts to sour over a short period of time. It just doesn't taste as good!
Here's another method to pour funnel cakes. What's wrong with this type of setup? 1. It's slow... 2. The batter is not sealed off from contaminates. 3. You have to take the batter dispenser off of a spring system which it hangs over the hot oil. Good way to get burned! Plus, it's very heavy to lift back up and attach it to the spring system.
Good Heavens! Look at the size of the funnel they are using to pour funnel cakes. Can you imagine what your arm feels like if you've used that for 10 hours straight. They had to use a funnel that size to get the productivity and make any money.
We don't post these videos to make fun of the people in them. We feel sorry for them that they are working so hard. I'm sure they are worn out when their day is done. There's a "better way" and the Funnel Cake Batter Dispenser is the "way!"
